our venue
History
Stark’s Park is one Scotland’s longest standing and most distinctive stadiums. Predominantly regarded as the proud home of Raith Rovers since it’s inception, ‘San Starko’ now stands strong as a keystone within the Kirkcaldy community. Following on from intensive developments over the previous year, the stadium can now offer a range of revered events packages.
Shrouded in both history and tradition, the stadium is a venue where memories are constructed and partnerships forged, both on and off the field of play.
A stadium steeped in history, Stark’s Park was first occupied in 1891 and has been the home of Raith Rovers ever since. Having witnessed all ebbs and flows accustomed with the beautiful game through the decades, Stark’s Park now hosts Championship football on a weekly basis under the stewardship of manager, John McGlynn.
With an overall capacity of over 8000, the stadium sits in the south of Kirkcaldy and consists of four stands. The oldest stand is the Main Stand, which is renowned for its unique L shape, having been designed by the distinguished architect of notable grounds such as Highbury and Ibrox- Archibald Leitch. The Main Stand was constructed in 1925 and renamed the ‘Turnbull Hutton Stand’ in 2015, in honour of the club’s former Chairman. The somewhat more contemporary ‘McDermid North’ and ‘Penman Family South’ stands see the majority of footfall on a matchday, with re-developments being carried out in 1996, after the clubs famous Coca Cola Cup win of ’94. Whilst most away fans can be located in the North Stand, spectators can also be found in the perpendicular Railway Stand on occasion, although the perennial stand has lied dormant in recent years. A truly unique stadium, squeezed in-between the railway line and Pratt Street, Stark’s Park has stuck in the memory of many visitors through the years.
However, a rather invigorating transformation was undertaken in 2018, when a state-of-the-art synthetic surface was installed. This surface has created a plethora of opportunities for the Kirkcaldy community, with Stark’s Park not lying empty away from Saturday afternoons. Admired widely by fellow professional players in the industry, the pitch can cope with all weathers and has created many new opportunities for the club, who don one of the finest surfaces in the Fife region. We’re constantly seeking ways to enhance our output to continually offer local youngsters the opportunity to take advantage of the excellent facilities on hand at Stark’s Park.
With further re-developments behind the scenes, San Starko can facilitate a number of excellent and flexible events packages. With a number of re-furbished lounges available, our events team are always on hand to you help you create your desired event – whatever the circumstance. These cutting-edge enhancements have caused Stark’s Park to become a true community hub within Kirkcaldy – a title that we’re proud to hold and continually develop.
Steeped in footballing tradition and Scottish culture, Stark’s Park can offer an experience unlike no other. Whether that’s with the ball at your feet or behind a desk in a conference call, the ground is a truly exceptional and unique space.
Stark's Park
Stark’s Park is Raith Rovers’ home ground.
Known as San Starko by fans, the ground lies to the south of Kirkcaldy and was first used in 1891. The main stand – usually occupied on matchday by home fans – was built in 1925. Unusually for a main stand, the L Shaped building hugs the south-east corner rather than being along one side of the pitch. This is due to the angle with which the ground meets Pratt Street. It also houses the club’s administrative offices.
The more modern North (McDermid) and South Stands were built in the 1990’s, following new regulations introduced in the wake of a number of crowd disasters. The North stand is where most away fans sit. It was renamed the McDermid stand in 2010 in honour of local-born author Val McDermid’s father, who was a scout for Raith.
The Railway stand is now unused on matchdays, except for media.
Combined, Stark’s Park can hold just over 8,000 seated fans.
